Description
Moscato d’Asti DOCG is a semi-sparkling (frizzante) white wine from the Piedmont region of Italy, classified as DOCG (the highest Italian wine designation) since 1993. It is produced exclusively from 100% Moscato Bianco grapes in specific areas within the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, and Cuneo.
The wine is characterized by its low alcohol content (typically 5.5% ABV), natural sweetness, and intense aromatic profile featuring notes of orange blossom, peach, apricot, honey, and citrus. Unlike the fully sparkling Asti Spumante, Moscato d’Asti has lower internal pressure (under 2.5 atmospheres) and is made by halting fermentation early to preserve residual sugar and natural carbonation.
-
Production: Grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed; fermentation is stopped by cooling to around 0°C, preserving freshness and sweetness.
-
Serving: Best served chilled at 6–10°C (43–50°F) in standard wine bottles with a flush cork.
-
Pairings: Ideal with fruit tarts, fresh cheeses, pastries, and light appetizers; also pairs well with spicy dishes or shellfish.
-
Styles: Includes standard frizzante and rare Riserva versions aged for at least 30 months (20 in bottle).
